This volcanic island was the inspiration for my earliest photo syntheses and the reason why I got dive certified. In March 2007, following the end of my first marriage, I booked a journey by sea to some of the smaller, less accessible Caribbean islands and became intrigued with Saba, described as the premiere dive spot in the Caribbean. Tenders are oftentimes unable to disembark in Saba’s quirky man-made harbor because of rough seas. It would take three trips for me to make landfall in Saba, but once I did, I was taken. I now travel to Saba frequently to dive, hike and visit my friend JoBean Chambers, the Island’s glass artist and conservationist, who so warmly welcomed me to her studio during one of my early visits.
