IF ONLY THE PRINCE WERE AS NOBLE AS THE FROG (2009): The nobility of transformation, represented by the frog, and the free will and strength of the wolf win over the deceitful temptations offered by the prince. The eel is guided by the light of higher consciousness.
ARRIVING AT THE FAIRIE PARTY (2009): There is always something joyful about finding that place in the woods where you know magical creatures assemble to celebrate and do their work. I found such a place in Bermuda’s Walsingham Nature Reserve, also known as the poet Tom Moore’s jungle.
BERMUDEAN RHAPSODY (2009): Nature as cure-all; the lyrical beauty of Bermuda’s underwater scenery and sparkling pink sand is captured in this work.
EMERGING CONSCIOUSNESS (2009): From an underground cave with a deep pool of cold, fresh water, emerges the fish of creativity and knowledge. A woman materializes from the white and pink stargazer of prosperity. This ibis is not wounded or dying because of a hostile environment; instead it heralds the life cycles ahead. The conch reminds us of our personal power, authority and sovereignty.
MATES FOR LIFE (2009): Flamingoes and butterfly fish mate for life. Yet, in this work, the butterfly fish wants a relationship that cannot be. The dragon fruit it seeks to mate with does not share its consciousness.
SHEDDING LIGHT ON THE MATTER (2009): An underground cave acts as background, indicating the need to bring an issue above ground. The sharp, well developed eye of a hogfish keenly peers from underneath a stone sign in Hamilton, explicit on where the problem lies – learned behavior, old patterns contained by the walls of unconsciousness.
WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE TRIES TO TIE ME DOWN (2009): A black and white picture of an underwater wreck forms the background of this work. The strong but ineffective rope yields to the intuition of the bat, able to see through illusion, and the kiskadee flycatcher, ready to pounce on predators of greater size.
WHAT THE MOON AWAKENS IN BERMUDA (2009): Full moons are powerful. They affect the tides, trigger natural rhythms, coral spawning, restlessness, and make the imagination run. This work, anchored by a monitor lizard symbolizing adaptability, the ability to recognize danger and remove ourselves from harm’s way, was inspired by an early September full moon.
